About the Event
Dress: Georgian Period Costume (1714 - 1837)
It’s that time of year again – time for the Georgian Picnic! With an afternoon filled with charming Rococo and Regency costume, delicious food, fun period games, and lively conversation, it’s easy to see why this has become one of our most popular events! Bring your favorite picnic foods, or if you’re feeling adventurous, try your hand at an 18th Century recipe! All attempts and interpretations of 18th Century costume are welcome, from exacting recreations to dastardly pirates!
The event is free and costumes are optional, but encouraged! RSVPs are not required.
There are a wide variety of patterns available that you can use to make a Georgian costume. There are a few suitable patterns in the Halloween section of the "big 3" pattern makers that you can buy in any fabric store, but some of the better patterns are only sold online. Here are a few companies that sell the most popular 18th century and Regency costume patterns:
You can also find a variety of options from smaller pattern makers at 18th century sutler shops like these:
Simplicity and McCalls now also have several Georgian patterns thanks to American Duchess and Angela Clayton:
Simplicity S8941 - 1790s open robe
Simplicity 8579 - 18th Century foundation garments (pocket hoop fashions)
Simplicity 8578 - 18th Century Robe a la Francaise gown
Simplicity 8161 - Outlander inspired 18th Century outfits
McCall M7826 - 1780s-style "zone front" or Robe a la Turque inspired gown
